How do PDO threads work?
Polydioxanone (PDO) is a synthetic fibre that fully dissolves in the tissue over time. It has been used to make skin and subcutaneous sutures, and so has been used in medicine for many years. The idea of using PDO threads in aesthetic treatments began in Korea and, thanks to its striking results, quickly gained popularity worldwide. The treatment involves placing the PDO thread under the skin (in selected areas) using a very fine needle. Once inserted, the needle is removed and a dressing is applied to the skin. The treatment creates a scaffold around which the body begins the process of neocollagenesis (production of new collagen fibres), stimulates fibroblasts to increase elastin synthesis, and produces endogenous hyaluronic acid. After the treatment the skin becomes firmer, tighter and more elastic.
