How do PLLA threads work?
Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) is a substance that occurs naturally in the body and fully dissolves in the tissue over a set period. The idea of using PLLA threads in aesthetic treatments began in Korea and, thanks to its striking results, quickly gained popularity worldwide. The treatment involves placing the PLLA thread under the skin (in selected areas) using a very fine needle. Once inserted, the needle is removed and a dressing is applied to the skin. The treatment creates a scaffold around which the body begins the process of neocollagenesis (production of new collagen fibres), stimulates fibroblasts to increase elastin synthesis, and produces endogenous hyaluronic acid. After the treatment the skin becomes firmer, tighter and more elastic.
