How do PCL threads work?
Polycaprolactone (PCL) is a synthetic polymer that fully dissolves in the tissue after a set period. The breakdown time of polycaprolactone is longer than that of PDO or PLLA. The idea of using PCL threads in aesthetic treatments originated in Korea and quickly gained popularity worldwide. The treatment involves inserting PCL threads under the skin (into selected areas) using a very fine needle. After insertion the needle is removed and a dressing is applied to the skin. The treatment creates a kind of scaffold around which the body begins the process of neocollagenesis (production of new collagen fibres), stimulation of fibroblasts to increased synthesis of elastin, and synthesis of endogenous hyaluronic acid.
