How do PDO threads work?
Polydioxanone (PDO) is a synthetic filament that completely dissolves in the tissue after some time. It has been used to make skin and subcutaneous sutures, so it has been used in medicine for many years. The idea of using PDO threads in aesthetic treatments originated in Korea and quickly gained popularity worldwide. The treatment involves inserting the PDO thread under the skin (in selected areas) using a very fine needle. After insertion the needle is removed and a dressing is placed on the skin. The treatment creates a kind of scaffold, around which the body begins the process of neocollagenesis (production of new collagen fibres), stimulation of fibroblasts to increase elastin synthesis, and the synthesis of endogenous hyaluronic acid. After the treatment the skin becomes more springy, taut and elastic.
