We audit other people's websites for accessibility for a living. It would be a poor look to hide behind a vague statement about ours, so this page says what actually passes, what does not, and when the gaps close.
This statement covers the website at aestheticmedicine.ie and everything under it, including the shop, product pages, basket, checkout and account area.
It does not cover content on other companies' websites that we link to, or documents produced by the manufacturers whose products we sell. Where a manufacturer's instructions for use or safety data sheet is not accessible, ask us and we will get you the information in a form you can use.
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. That is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the World Wide Web Consortium, and it is the standard behind EN 301 549, which is what the European Accessibility Act points at for e-commerce.
The European Accessibility Act has applied to online shops selling to consumers in the EU since 28 June 2025. In Ireland it is given effect by the European Union (Accessibility Requirements of Products and Services) Regulations 2023, S.I. No. 636 of 2023.
There is a microenterprise exemption in the Act, for a business with fewer than ten staff and a turnover under two million euro. Both conditions have to be met. We are not relying on it. We would rather build the site properly than argue about whether we have to.
This site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. Partially conformant means some parts of it do not fully meet the standard yet. The problems we know about are listed in the next section.
The assessment below was made on 22 August 2026 by running an automated audit across eight representative pages: the home page, the shop, a category listing, a product page, the basket, the account page, the wishlist and the contact page.
An automated audit finds roughly a third of accessibility problems. A full manual audit against all of WCAG 2.2 AA, including keyboard-only and screen reader testing, is scheduled before this shop opens to customers, and this page will be rewritten from its findings.
These are real, they are ours, and they are being fixed.
| Problem | Where | Criterion | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grey text on white below the required contrast. The main offender is the small category line on every product card, which is currently 2.8 to 1 where 4.5 to 1 is needed. | Product cards site-wide, the main menu, the search field placeholder, the newsletter field | 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) | Being fixed. It is a small number of colour values, not a page-by-page job. |
| The red SALE label on menu items is white on red at 8px, which is below the required contrast for small text. | Main navigation | 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) | Being fixed. |
| Some links carry only an icon or an image and have no text a screen reader can announce. | The strip above the footer, pagination controls | 2.4.4 Link Purpose, 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value | Being fixed. |
| The newsletter sign-up button has no accessible name. | Footer, every page | 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value | Being fixed as part of the footer rebuild. |
| The search box carries an ARIA attribute that is not valid on that element, so assistive technology may announce it incorrectly. | Site header | 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value | Being fixed. |
| Some controls are smaller than the 24 by 24 pixel minimum target size and sit too close to their neighbours. | A small number of controls on three pages | 2.5.8 Target Size (Minimum) | Being fixed. |
We will keep this table current. When a row is fixed it comes out, and the date at the top of this page changes.
If any part of this site stops you doing something, tell us. Two things then happen.
We will place your order for you. By phone or by email, at the same price, with the same delivery. You do not have to fight the website to be a customer.
We will fix the problem. We will acknowledge your message within five working days and tell you what we are doing about it and roughly when.
It helps if you can tell us the page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what happened instead. If you use a screen reader, magnifier, voice control or any other assistive technology, saying which one and which browser makes it much faster to reproduce.
If you have told us about an accessibility problem and you are not satisfied with how we handled it, you can escalate it.
In Ireland, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission is the authority responsible for e-commerce services under the European Union (Accessibility Requirements of Products and Services) Regulations 2023.
The Regulations also allow a consumer to bring an action in the Irish courts where they believe a business is not complying, and allow organisations with a legitimate interest to support that action.
Our own complaints procedure is on the complaints and disputes page, and we would always rather hear from you first.
Prepared on 22 August 2026. The assessment was an automated audit using axe-core 4.12 against WCAG 2.0 A and AA, WCAG 2.1 A and AA, and WCAG 2.2 AA, run across eight representative pages of this site.
This statement will be reviewed and rewritten after the full manual audit, and reviewed at least once a year after that.
A summary of everything above, not the policy itself. The numbered sections are the ones that count.
